The River

Download sample

So smooth.
Like water underneath a bridge.
Calm and reflective, on the surface.
And underneath, you appear to be full of life.
But I know that you’re dying on the inside.

I’m not sure just how far to take my metaphors.
Because I don’t know where you come from, or where you go,
When you roll on by just like water...

So I hold my head above.
That’s what I’m doing.
I don’t even have to try to sink or swim.
Either way you keep me moving.
Maybe I should stop to listen to myself once in a while.
But who is there for me to trust when even I sound like a lie?

And I’m not sure just how far to take my metaphors.
Because I don’t know where you come from, or where you go,
When you roll on by just like water...

So come on, tell me where you’re always trying to go.
Just show me what you brought me here to show.
Yeah, I realize it took you quite some time to shape this road,
So far be it from me to stir up trouble.
Yeah, who are we to stir up trouble?

And who am I to break the calm of the river?
