About MeI'm a singer/song-writer, by hobby. I have been for nearly as long as I can remember. Growing up, I was fortunate enough to take piano lessons for many years. Then around age 15 I made the switch to guitar, and it stuck. Learning guitar was different for me than piano. I did not seek instruction; instead, I chose to learn by ear. In hindsight this was both good and bad. I have a strong ear, but I know few scales or chord names beyond the basics. This sometimes makes it challenging to play with others. And until recently, I have written, performed, and recorded the majority of my songs solo. In fact, with the exception of a few tracks, I recorded and mixed my first 6 albums on my own in a variety of makeshift bedroom studios. This, in part, has enabled me to record much material in a short span of time. Unfortunately, the quality of the equipment I have had to work with on these projects has been less than ideal. My most recent album, "Is That What Love is?", marked a change in my recording approach. Instead of working from home, this album was recorded several hours away in Nashville, TN, and produced by a friend of mine, Chris Jackson. Another friend, Noah Denney, also helped raise the quality of this project by writing and recording accompanying drum parts. Since the majority of my work is comprised of quiet, acoustic tunes, I have spent several years playing in nearby bookstores and coffee shops. This has been rewarding as well as challenging. I have found that performing, like many other things in life, has its highs and lows. However, as of late I have been performing less frequently, choosing instead to focus on writing and recording. Currently, I am writing (and soon to be performing) with a couple of talented individuals and friends, Karl Ridgeway and Aaron Sharps (of Epistemic). The style of music we are developing is very different from what I have written up until this point. (For instance, we have not yet written an acoustic song.) But I am very excited about it, and expect a high quality record to eventually result. We hope to go into the studio in the latter half of May, 2007. |
